The Eye Care Center is one of the most complete eye care facilities in Upstate New York.  We offer services in a rural community that are usually found only in big cities.
 
We started in 1973 with two doctors and a small office in FF Thompson Hospital.  For almost 30 years, we’ve added services and specialists to meet all your needs, right here in Canandaigua.  Now, over 45 specialists and staff provide complete eye care to patients from all over western New York.

Routine Care

Our experienced doctors take care of your yearly exams and check for medical problems. You can have your glasses made right here at the Eye Care Center, and contact lenses are available for less than you would pay through a mail order service.  Our large optical department and full service on site laboratory offers affordable convenience for everyone.  Our dedicated staff will come to know you and welcome you each time you walk in the door.

Emergencies

Urgent problems are always seen promptly.  Our ophthalmologist– on– call provides our established patients with emergency service, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including weekends and holidays.  Call 585-394-2020 anytime for information. 

Advanced Surgical Techniques

If you need surgery, we offer advanced cataract surgery at F.F. Thompson Hospital and laser vision correction surgery right in our office.  We are known in the medical community for introducing newer, safer techniques to the region, and investing in the best equipment.  Not only are we pioneers, we are proud of our quality outcomes and very low complication rates.  

Network of Specialists

Sometimes, unusual or complex eye problems require consultation with a specialist. We’ve built a network of specialists who come to the Eye Care Center to see our patients. We offer treatment for all types of eye problems including cataract and lens implant surgery, laser vision correction, corneal disease and eye infections, corneal transplants, pediatric eye care and surgery, eye plastic surgery, macular degeneration and diabetic laser surgery, retinal detachment repair, and glaucoma treatment.   You don’t have to drive to into the city – we bring the doctors to you.  The eye physicians and surgeons at the Eye Care Center are among the area’s top specialists and are members of the teaching faculty at Strong Memorial Hospital.

Dedication to the Community

We’re part of the community, and we work to make it better. The Eye Care Center is the major sponsor of the annual Better Life 5K Race that benefits the FF Thompson Foundation. We have held auctions to fund other local causes, such as the Battered Women’s Fund, Salvation Army, the Seeing Eye Dog Fund.  This year we were a major sponsor of the Ontario County ARC Cruisin’ For A Cause fundraiser.  We are also proud supporters of Canandaigua Lake Pure Waters, Canandaigua Police Benevolent Association, the Granger Homestead, Mercy Flight Central, Mental Health Association, NYS Committee for Medical Care, Ontario Yates Hospice, Ontario Pathways, Ontario County United Way and Sonnenberg Gardens.  We have contributed over $150,000 to capital campaign drives at FF Thompson Hospital.  Charity starts at home, but it doesn’t stop there. In the past four years, we collected close to $5000 for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. We also sponsor a year round medical clinic for needy children in the Philippines, and one of our doctors volunteer several weeks each year at the clinic.
