  • Received his BA in Engineering in 1987 from Dartmouth College.
  • Worked as a computer Analyst/Programmer from 1987 to 1990.
  • Received his M.D. in 1994 from the Brown-Dartmouth Program in Medicine.
  • Completed an internship in the Primary Care Program in Internal Medicine at Strong Memorial Hospital (1994-1995).
  • Completed Residency in Ophthalmology (1995-1998) through the University of Rochester Residency program at Strong Memorial Hospital. Administrative Chief Resident of Ophthalmology 1997-1998.
  • Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry.
  • Currently an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, New York State Ophthalmological Society and Monroe County Medical Society.
  • Trained with Stephen Slade, M.D., first surgeon to perform LASIK surgery on the excimer laser in the United States.
  • First surgeon in the Tri-County area to perform LASIK Laser Vision Correction.

PERSONAL:

Dr. Hwang’s parents emigrated to the U.S. from South Korea when he was one year old. His father, a general surgeon, has practiced in Missouri for over 30 years. He has a younger brother and sister, both attorneys. His wife, Anne-Marie, has retired from her Internal Medicine practice. They have 3 children. Dr. Hwang’s other interests include golf, tennis, squash and computer technology.

  • Completed a three year residency in Ophthalmology at Penn State-Geisinger Medical Center in 2000.
  • Awarded Fellowship in Vitreo-Retinal Surgery Ophthalmology at Indiana State University in 2001.
  • Certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners.
  • Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
  • Served as a medical volunteer in Guatemala and Honduras.
  • Currently an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Christian Medical and Dental Society and the American Society of Retina Specialists.

PERSONAL:

Dr. Piper was born and raised in Victor, New York. She is very pleased to return home to practice and raise her family after being away for 18 years for her medical training. Her husband, Jay Yates, M.D., is an Ear, Nose and Throat surgeon, practicing in Canandaigua. She has three children, Paige, Tristan and Camryn. Dr. Piper’s interests include hiking, equestrian sports and skiing.

Dr. Markowitz practices full time with the Ocusight practice in Rochester, New York.  He sees patients by referral at The Eye Care Center in Canandaigua on a monthly basis and has been doing so for more than a decade.

Dr. Rothstein was born in Russia and immigrated to the United States at ten years of age. She is married to Ron Friedman, Ph.D., a psychologist in Rochester, NY. She has one daughter and one son. Her interests include foreign films, traveling, and hiking with her dog.

Dr. Andolina was born in Dansville, NY. He spent his youth in Henrietta, NY and graduated from Rush Henrietta High School. His interests include cycling, ice hockey and competing in triathlons. His wife Danielle is a Registered Nurse and they are the parents of two children, Grace and Christopher and their dog, named Luke.
